I didn’t have hair until I was three … I have proof:

This is my 3rd birthday. As in 1-2-3. 3 years. 3 whole years. 36 months.

This is Jessica’s first pony tail! For the past 18 mo people have made comments about how little hair she has. The elderly continue to refer to her as a HE, no matter how much pink she has on. And she’s even been called Bald. I wasn’t worried that she’d never grow some hair - but the fact that I can put it in a pony tail now is just, well, it leaves me speechless.

This past weekend was a busy one for us - among family birthdays and open houses one of my best friends got married and I was their photographer, I’ve uploaded a few photos to flickr of the busy day.
I am in no means a professional photographer, nor do I claim to be. And no, I won’t take pictures of your sisters friends cousins wedding this weekend. You can contact these amazing photographers for that. I will however take photos of your kids. For money. :)
Happy birthday mom-in-law!! I hope you had a great day! And also to my Grandma Boeve, she turned 90!

JESSICA USED HER POTTY TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It probably helps that while we were in the store today buying some swimming toys we ventured over to the potty training needs and saw a training potty with ELMO all over it. She fell in love.
After we got it out of the box and Aaron took it to the bathroom to show Jessica how it works she sat down and went. Not alot - but she went. And I was getting the special treats ready in our gum ball machine, we were going to do a practice run to show her how the system would work … and then she went and did it on her own.
So I was gave her an M&M and all of a sudden I see some shinny wetness at her toes - just droplets. Aaron picks her up and runs her to the potty, sits her down and she REALLY goes potty. Fills the cup half way up. So we do the whole drill again, YEAH JESSICA!! WOW, YOU DID IT!! HOORAY - GOOD JOB!! Wipe. Flush. Clean the Potty. Give child penny for gum ball machine. Get baby handful of M&M’s and fill out ELMO’S special certificate stating that Jessica Ranae Schaap made a STUPENDOUS effort at using the potty and placed it PROUDLY on the fridge.
She hasn’t gone on the potty again - but her diapers are staying dry in between changing and using the potty and she knows and understands the role of the potty.
Completely proud of my little girl. What a big girl.

We’ve begun potty-training in this house and it’s been going great. We don’t have a kid potty yet, so we’re just using the BIG girl potty and although she has yet to USE the potty, she sits on it alot and likes to flush. And she can now say Potty.
I’ve been trying to get her to sit on the potty at certain times during the day, after a nap, before bed, after eating … and I’m letting her run around naked more so she can feel the urge more than with the diaper.
Today we had a great potty training moment - we were outside for a while and she ended up getting naked to play in the pool and run around - she was doing great, no accidents what so ever. Then it’s time to go in and take a bath and we take our time getting there - looking at the grass and riding in the stroller up the hill, la la la …
All of a sudden she darts for the bathroom, mostly because we mentioned BATH and anything having to do with playing in water is ON HER LIST OF THINGS TO DO - so we didn’t think anything of it. This is normal behavior. Then we get to the bathroom to see her squatting and playing with her pee …
At least she knew to go into the bathroom. One hurdle down, many many many more to go.
