Our New Years Eve party is tonight (hopefully, right?) and today Aaron and I spent some quality time today looking for our costumes - our theme is an 80’s night. Goodwill was the jackpot. It was hilarious and so much fun. There must be other 80’s themed nights happening around here because we ran in to quite a few other people shopping for the same costume.
I won’t give anything away because the photos will be awesome but lets just say we went all out.
I used to sell houses. I was in real estate with my dad for about 2 years, give or take. I do miss it, being in the work force - but more than anything I miss seeing inside all kinds of wonderful homes and houses. I loved matching clients up with a place they would make a home and I secretly loved envisioning all the things I would do in each and every house I toured.
I let my license lapse when Jessica was in her first year of life and I still tour houses when I can and I’m always drinking up the landscape of the roadside as we drive. Tonight I decided to see what Flickr could offer me.
Now that we know the sex of the baby (a boy for those of you who missed the big announcement) we haven’t done much about it. We thought we’d start looking at names once we knew the sex or planning the nursery or just thinking about it more in general - and none of this has happened.
Of course it was Christmas and we didn’t have a ton of time to sit and think about a baby boy in our lives but when we did - we were either sleeping or planning our new bathroom, or well - knocking down the current walls and making a massive mess.
So today during Jessica’s nap I remembered there were some really cute crib bedding collections I saw online that were very reasonably priced - so I went looking for them again and found the one we fell in love with months ago and then forgot all about. This time I bookmarked them and that’s as far as I got.
Right now the nursery is our makeshift bathroom hub and all-around landing place for things that need a home - or baby stuff that needs to be organized when the bedroom is finally reclaimed as the nursery. There just isn’t much happening in baby-land over here.
He’s kicking harder now that it’s easier for other people to feel him, and let me tell you how weird it is to refer to this baby as a he or she. So weird. Jessica was probably 6 months old before we started to referring to her room as “Jessica’s room” before that it was ALWAYS “the baby’s room” or “the baby’s clothes, diaper, bag, car seat, etc” her identity was ‘baby’ for the longest time - it’s just weird that this baby has one already - he, him, his.
No, we don’t have any names yet. We haven’t even looked harder now that we know he’s a boy. We still have 4 months right? Either way, we’ll be keeping that under lock and key until the little guy is born so it’s not very exciting news one way or the other, we just won’t be telling.
Slowly but surely everything will take shape around here and in perfect timing, too.
I unveiled the surprise to Aaron today about his birthday/Christmas gift. It’s been months in the planning … and it’s also for the entire family, but his holiday was a good one to use as a jumping off point.
We’re finally gutting our main floor bathroom to make room for the new one and a working bathtub. HIP HIP HOORAY! I decided to tell him a few days early because I thought we could get started on the demolition and go a little faster than planned (originally with out his help) but as I’m typing this he’s up there demolishing walls. It’s a good thing too, because as we’re working we’re finding various stages of mold - gross. Good thing a fan and new electrical is a part of the plan.
The only thing we’ll be keeping is the toilet which was recently replaced. The pedestal sink we have in there now will be sold on craigslist and we’re making room for a nice spacious vanity. I’m very excited about all of this and Aaron confessed he was about to start planning the same surprise for me :)
As of right now the reconstruction is set to begin on Jan 2nd - but if we get the walls all ready - we might push it up a few days. Everything else has arrived - so really, at this point, we’re just waiting on us.
